Cinema Paradiso is an Italian Film made on 1988 written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore It tells a story about a young boy named Salvatore Di Vita who has a passion about film. Salvatore Di Vita played by 3 different actors (Salvatore Cascio for the child, Marco Leonardi for the adolescent, and Jacques Perrin for the adult).

Here's the big problem of Toto (the childhood name Salvatore Di Vita). He lives in "dark ages". Italia was such a boring village and Toto feels so sick about the effects of world war II. He has no father anymore. The priest is being the control freak about sexuality.  There is low happiness in village because entertainment is limited and full of censor.

Toto finally found his sweet escape in a movie house Cinema Paradiso. He builds the relationship with the projectionist name Alfredo (Philippe Noiret). Toto learns many things from Alfredo. How to run a projection, how to run a cinema business, how to earn happiness and share happiness to the other through film, and how finally how to conquer the world. From Alfredo, Toto learns how to shine after being burnt. Alfredo leaves a big mark in Toto's life.

The old Toto is a master of Italian Filmmaker. The death of Alfredo brings Toto back to Sicily; the home town. Toto broke his promise to attend Alfredo's funeral. He gives his last respect to the old man. During the funeral, Toto finally understand why Alfredo insisted him to leave Sicily. He will never pursue his bigger passion in film if he stayed.

Toto returns home to Rome by bringing a legacy from Alfredo; the unlabeled old reel and projection. Toto suddenly went to tears when he watched the reel. It is compilation of his past. Alfredo put all the romantic scenes that the priest had ordered to cut and combined with the film captured by Toto. Yes, film is a paradise for Toto and it begin with Alfredo.

Cinema Paradiso is an achievement in film industry. One of the beautiful classic film. It was critically and box office success. Academy Award regarded Cinema Paradiso the winner for Best Foreign Film in 1988. Viva Italy! Viva the film! Viva the life!

"Life isn't like in the movies.
